I felt the dissonance of this video with the combination of the innocent, balmy feeling, sweet sing along nature of the music and having researched and known of the story of the Jonestown Massacre before watching . Being a Libra I experienced both the disturbingly appropriate and disturbingly un-appropriate jolt to this video. As Alan Watts says "A push from the left is a pull from the right." In the end as a form of art I believe it hit its mark. I think the band and the director have done a fine job of creating something arousing and ballsy. If you agree with it or not is something entirely different. I understand that such a move by the band and the director of this video is controversial. People have already shared their opinions and views on it. Calling it "exploitive" and "done in bad taste" as well as those who agree that it is okay because it "re-tells and humanizes the story of The Peoples Temple". Its no question that this video is haunting, shocking and again controversial, given the result of many of the people in the footage. Its worthy to note that before this video was released the survivors of "The Peoples Temple" were contacted and showed the video. They were appreciative of it. I thought that this was a smart move by the director and the band. If the survivors of "The Peoples Temple" had in anyway felt this video was dissatisfying to them and didn't want it released and was subsequently released I would have been offended. For them to approve of it means everything.

I think the music and perhaps part of the goal of the "Cults" aesthetic matches well with this video at least for this song. I had always felt that hearing this type of music which is very saccharine and kid like in this day and age or rather after all the injustices and disturbing atmosphere that permeates our society from top to bottom is curious and ironic. To me this hits better than any metal or hard rock bands imagery and sound hits an intended degenerative or nihilist subject. Why? Well I think now we have become accustomed to the sound of say a Marylin Manson on the backdrop of any of his videos. It's too predictable. The "Cults" (not to be confused with "The Cult" obviously) oddly seem to be more metal than metal sometimes, if I can be so inclined to say that... well at least to me. I do understand that the band probably isn't intending that to happen... they probably have a very positive intention to their music and this video but that's not to say their sound and video art here is closed to interpretation. Anais Nin says "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Such is the case for my reading of this video perhaps. I can only use myself as a filter from which to base opinions. Others might find other interpretations and I hope so.

I couldn't help but to dig through my files for an art presentation I once made to find a quote by Micheal Tsarion that I thought about after viewing this video. This quote by Micheal Tsarion isn't found anywhere else on the net but here. Its about time to put it up...

“We are in a necrotic cycle and there is nothing wrong with that. Nature has its cycles and all the way up to fractals. We have the same concept... anaerobic and catabolic cycles. The constructive and deconstructive. All that needs to happen is an attitudinal change today in which people get with this deconstructive model and allow your children to explore and understand it because they are picking up on it like antenna more then the average person who is in lockdown in this mediocrity of their life. Change is going to happen whether you like it or not. One has to realize that if you go with this deconstructive cycle then out of that comes the finest things. When you see the beauty of it, you realize that there is nothing to be fearful of at at all. All that it is doing is ending your lie, ending your illusion. It is taking away from you that which you don’t need. So let it go. “ –Micheal Tsarion

War Games- Shall We Play A Game? - Home Brewed Philosophies v.2

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v8.nonxt8.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Db2b7db2d1453785a%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330259904%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3DB705F16D12AD145257827ADBE0D34967F627E9A.1342801810EEF2B8A1E03DB901E7E80CB859D92A%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Db2b7db2d1453785a%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DLarw0sJG31v_aKCROHoL3YWRJ9Y&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

"You see phreakers sometimes got those Ally Sheedy types who unknowingly give backdoor passwords to hack into high level government defense systems (NORAD) and threaten WW3 confusing reality with gameplaying. And if you go back to 1960s when there was a tremendous upsurge of exploration of psychedelics, I would say that the huge backlash that followed that had to do with a fear of the part of the powers that be, that if enough people went into those realms of those experiences then the very fabric of the society we have today would be picked apart, and most importantly, those in power at the top would not be in power at the top anymore." -Graham Hancock

I believe in...

(an old writeup/prose i did once that i think should exist on here/within this blog context):

"I believe in the bending of space and time through special barbacoa tacos. We are living in Denton proper right now ("proper" meaning properly situated away from 288). The "like a folky berekly" neo-folk-hippies, vagetarians, gear heads, artgeeks, neo-nerds, crusties, synthaholoics, gender benders, 12 pack PBR fixed gear crew, beardos, UNT jazzbos and barbacoa cadets are just too beautiful. The small slice of chillelectro folktronic vibe here is breath taking . If you turn your head sideways It looks like a cross between a David Lynch and John Waters film and that 1983 cult film called Liquid Sky. The usually obvious Richard Linklater "Slacker" film association only seems appropriate if you invert the concept and filter it through a texican-pinneapple prism. Yes, I do believe that our perceptions of so called "solids" comes through a collapse of the wave form of multiple, potential possibilities. Though normally it does embody a combination of "the bohemian charm of Berkeley with the rural folksiness of the South." However, there isn't too much of an overwhelming crusty layer of monoculture and neo-folk, tough if you travel away from "proper" too much you hit Texas. The beer on a budget drunks have saturated the place and the weirdos are authentic not plastic... strange stuff. Definitely not like San Marcos at all the 3rd week in. By the time the 1st year rolls around you say to yourself "wait this doesn't feel like a 1970's Austin or a San Marcos on shrooms wtf is this? Is this really happening in Texas? on planet Earth?" During the third year you have taken everything for granted until you travel to Austin or Kingsville, TX again and realize what you have. Great spot for a true staycation. Pics coming soon. We traverse a new area of a territory that was discovered by the greats before us. Not to sure how deep it is right now. We've encountered a space reef where our position in the universe is in question but there is no anxiety. The questioning is part of a dance we are all invited to and we embrace. We've lost some contact with the home base but there is no lost and found out here. We discover an area fertile and teaming with life of enormous beauty. We've been working on finding a way into their system. While searching for a door we find what appears to be a window, so there is hope. The team is undergoing research on how to enter respectfully. First and foremost we have to find out if we are welcomed. Perhaps there our group can find some rest for the night. Meanwhile there is a transmission of an endless loop of scenes from back home . Scenes of rampant materialism which seems to be fueled by an unbalanced egotism and an inability to live in the present moment. Fortunately we have the ability to change the station or frequency transmitting an alternate universe where in Slowpoke Rodriquez teaches Speedy Gonazalez how to make friends with Sylvester the Cat, which begets a new saga. We are still in contact with other teams of spiritual astronauts and other intellectuals on this journey as well. Colleagues who have been so gracious as to have given us some maps. Maps which are still being worked. Other teams are on their way. I will keep you in my thoughts and updated on our journey as it unfolds.

I've been looking forward to this...

taken from pitchfork:
The Samps (short for "South African Metaphysical Society", apparently) is only one person: Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti member Cole M. My great friends, from San Antonio, and I met the vocalist and composer Alan Palomo (really humble and stand up guy that I believe is truly deserving of the recent spotlight) around the summer of 2008 when he was performing under his previous project Ghosthustler at Strawberry Fields in Denton TX. Alan and his bandmates at the time (other great guys and musicians that I befriended) invited us to their private house show the next day and we had a blast hanging with him and his crew.
I guess one can say Neon Indian's music is part of this whole 80's revisionism movement that has been going on for awhile. However that's not to say their music is a regurgitation of days gone by, on the contrary I believe their music to be fresh. Their sound has been described by one blogger as "a cassette mixtape left to bake in a Celica for 25 years." A Celica? Really? Why not that customized Trans AM called KITT in the Knightrider series? On second thought perhaps we should leave out any and all associations to David Hassolhof. They've been filed under the genres of hypnogogic pop and chill wave by bloggers often to the dismay of the bands. Bands/Artists kind of hate categories u know. Neon Indian's music has a melted almost drugged analog retro feel that is counterpointed well by some current electronic subtleties and beats. They take som retro dance synth grooves from the halls of the time of dayglow, VHS and "bizarre love triangle" and infected it with a personal melancholic dissonance from our current climate of the late 2000's.

Time Travel

Time control, time manipulation, time travel or the bending of space and time may be possible. In fact certain people in the know say it is happening right now and has been a possibility since 2002. However, with that being said this development is currently under a curtain of subterfuge and or obscurity by the people that be (understandably). It is being hidden from the public because it is knowledge that has the potential to destabilize the current mainline comfort zone. According to some experts this hidden knowledge could cause a level of civil unrest that is hard to manage (like the atom bomb: knowledge in the wrong hands) so it is a double edge sword. Back in 1934 Einstein kind of summed up the scientific thought of the time on the splitting of an atom (once nearly thought of as impossible). Albert Einstein was quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as saying, “There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will ever be obtainable. It would mean that the atom would have to be shattered at will.” When Oppenheimer (the brilliant theoretical physicist who headed the Manhattan Project) was told in 1939 that uranium had been split, thus releasing more energy than it absorbed, he gave a brilliant one-hour extemporaneous explanation of how it was impossible. He changed his mind when later he was faced with the irrefutable evidence at hand. My point is that there have been about 10 impossibilities conquered by science. The 11th one might be Time Travel. I never considered any source announcing the possibility of time travel credible until I heard Dr David Lewis Anderson talk about it.

The following is an abstract of the situation from an airing on Coast to Coast:

"Time Technology & Research Joining Art Bell for the entire 4-hour program, physicist Dr. David Anderson discussed the state of time technology from his research, as well as other labs around the world. He recapped his work from 2002, when he last appeared with Art on the show. At that juncture, his team had created small time warp fields that he said could accelerate time by 300% within the field, as well as reversing time. He described the initiation of a time warp field as quite spectacular to witness, "between the combinations of different chemical reagents and high energy lasers we use to excite or initiate a time warp field...a lot of light, a lot of energy." Since2002, the effects have increased by "two orders of magnitudes," both in time acceleration and retardation rates, and living organisms have been successfully tested in the warp fields, he detailed. By regenerating "closed time like curves" (bending space time so time loops back on itself) we're finding it "just as easy to move backwards in time as well as forward," Anderson explained. Currently countries such as Japan, China, and especially India have been experimenting with time technologies, Anderson reported. Through a device called the Temporal Tremor Detector (TTD), his team is able to track such experiments by observing disruptions in the space time fabric, he said. As time technology becomes further developed, moral and ethical issues are arising, he pointed out. Benefits of the technology include accurate historical studies of the past, but on the negative side, we could experience "Time Wars," with deliberate destruction of parts of the time line. Anderson advocated for more transparency and disclosure of the technology, so the public can have input on how it's used. "

Some interesting points covered here:
•India is a leader in research and development (R&D)
•China currently has the largest pot of money for their effort
•Detecting time manipulation technology is achieved with what is called a "Temporal Tremor Detector" (TTD) and currently there are readings coming from India.
•It is equally easy to go forward or backward in time.
•Cautions on potential for misuse.

If you have the time and you care the following link is a youtube of the stream link as aired on Coast to Coast with Art Bell (late-night syndicated radio talk show which deals with a variety of topics, but most frequently ones that relate either to the paranormal or to alleged conspiracies). It is long and so I don't expect anyone to go through it all like I did. But if you want to know it is there on youtube. If true the idea of this being ground breaking is a complete understatement if I ever heard one. It is beyond that.

The youtube link at the end of this is part 3 (it has 16 parts so you can start from the beginning if you want). I started at 3 here b/c it has a small recap and then goes into why India is at the head of this research.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDYY1OOqLEw
